The Adhesive Grenade is a throwable weapon in PAYDAY 2, released as part of the McShay Mod Pack.

Overview[]

Adhesive Grenades can be thrown by pressing the "throwable key". They will latch on to the first object or surface they collide with, and explode after 2.5 seconds. If the grenade does not collide with any object or surface, it will explode after 10 seconds. Stronger opponents (such as Heavy Response Units and Maximum Force Responders) will usually be knocked down and often lose their helmets; this is purely aesthetic and no extra headshot damage is granted. Grenades cause damage to most destructible objects in the game, and can be used to complete the damage objectives of Mallcrasher. However, they will also destroy boards placed over windows and computers in the lab of Big Oil, potentially destroying a valuable clue.

Mechanics[]

Dynamite falloff

The damage falloff multiplier of adhesive grenades, as a function of distance from the source of the explosion.

The damage dealt by grenades decreases as distance from the explosion increases. At a distance of 0 meters from the explosion, enemies will take 1200 damage. At a distance of just under 5 meters from the explosion, the damage dealt is approximately half of this value. The formula

determines the exact damage dealt by a grenade, where distance is the distance between an enemy and the explosion. If the enemy is a Heavy Swat or a Shield, the damage taken will be multiplied by 0.8 or 0.9, respectively. Bulldozers and Captain Winters are both vulnerable to explosions, and their damage taken will be mutliplied by 1.1 and 6.0, respectively.[1]

Strategy[]

Unlike other grenades, adhesive grenades can not be detonated prematurely if struck by gunfire. Adhesive grenades do damage through walls, so beware of throwing them near teammates or crowds of civilians, even if separated by a wall. Adhesive Grenades will arm themselves and detonate after 2.5 seconds once they stick to something; if the projectile does not collide with anything, it will automatically detonate after 10 seconds. They also are thrown much further than regular grenades, requiring less aiming adjustment.

Care should be taken as to where a player throws an adhesive grenade. If a grenade latches onto a moving enemy, it may inadvertently carry the grenade towards civilians and kill hostages. Grenades thrown at the front of a Shield often deal no damage, so players should avoid trying to stick to shields. However, adhesive grenades are excellent for dealing with SWAT Turrets, as they cannot be shot in midair and they deal enormous damage to the turret's shield. Two adhesive grenades maximum will force the turret to withdraw or expose its lens to be permanently destroyed with weapons like the Akimbo Krinkov and Hailstorm Mk 5.

Explosions close to Bulldozers can remove his faceplate or visor, potentially exposing his face to regular damage.

Grenades, along with other throwables except for the Shuriken, are very helpful when activating the Berserker skill. Three direct explosions usually aren't enough though, and you may need to request the help of teammates or buy a grenade case asset. If wearing a suit though, three direct explosions will be more than sufficient to get your health below 25%. Chaining explosions is the most effective method, as a lot more damage will be done once your armor has been depleted.

One strategy is sticking grenades to nearby enemies and then pushing the victim using a high-damage shotgun like The Judge or the Gecko M2 pistol before the grenade explodes. This can help position the grenade deeper in a crowd of enemies, inflicting more damage with superior positioning.

Bugs[]

  • Grenades stuck to the front of a shield often block the explosion from happening, resulting in explosions that deal no damage to all enemies within the radius.
