Description
The Amaroq 900 sniper is a powerhouse and an excellent choice for anyone either at long range or peeking corners nearby.

The Amaroq 900 is a primary sniper rifle in PAYDAY 2, available to those who own the McShay Weapon Pack 4 DLC.

Overview

The Amaroq 900 is one of a few weapons in PAYDAY 2 to reach at least 1,000 damage per shot, functioning similar to the Thanatos .50 cal. In comparison, the Amaroq 900 possesses 2 more rounds in the magazine but 1 less overall, only about a third of the Thanatos's damage, and it sports noteworthy concealment potential plus a superior pickup rate over the Thanatos. Like the Thanatos, the Amaroq can swiftly and accurately kill almost any enemy with one headshot on any difficulty, and it sports very high one bodyshot potential depending on the configuration, alleviating aiming.

It also possesses two distinct Exclusive Sets: one provides more damage, while the other drops damage for more ammunition and improved reloading. The modifications, with or without either Exclusive Set, allow for 100 accuracy for pixel-perfect precision at any distance, greater ammunition capacity, alternate speedpull options, greater rate of fire, and improved concealment.

Of course, such power comes at the price of only 14 total rounds to work with plus a slow rate of fire and reload (though there are workarounds), and a still below-average pickup rate for a sniper rifle. The Amaroq 900 does not tolerate missing shots, but its high accuracy and damage make it easier to score kills than most sniper rifles.

Summary

Pros

• One of the most damaging weapons in the game, only trailing behind the Thanatos and the rocket launchers
• Acceptable concealment potential for dodge/crit setups
• Excellent Berserker synergy and bodyshot potential to make aiming less demanding
• Mods can somewhat alleviate ammo issues and/or bring the rifle to 100 accuracy
• Two separate Exclusive Sets: more damage or more ammo and a faster reload
• High threat for a sniper rifle, making enemies more likely to dive out of the way

Cons

• Low total ammo and below average pickup rate demands good aim, good scavenging, and/or Ammo bags
• Modding for concealment stunts accuracy/ammo potential and vice versa
• Speedpull options reduce magazine size
• Exclusive Sets block most sight options; the default high-power scope may be unwieldy up close
• Cannot equip both Exclusive Sets at once
• Slow rate of fire and reload

Tips

• Maximum possible concealment is 18 via Optical Illusions aced + Ice Cap Suppressor, Pirta Barrel, Moonlight Stock, Compact Profile+45 Degree Iron Sight, Lupa Grip, and a concealment stat boost. Taking the Badlands Exclusive Set comes close with 17 concealment instead.
• The maximum ammo potential with Fully Loaded but without either Exclusive Set is 25 with the Snowbound Shell Rack taken; taking the ammo stat boost will not further improve the Snowbound Shell Rack. Taking only the ammo stat boost gives +1 to the default and Badlands Exclusive Set.
  • Fully Loaded+Dragon Lore Exclusive Set+ammo stat boost yields 19 total rounds; the Dragon Lore Exclusive Set cannot take the Snowbound Shell Rack.
  • Fully Loaded+Badlands Exclusive Set+ammo stat boost+Snowbound Shell Rack yields 34 total rounds.
• Minigun Bulldozers will usually survive at least one exposed headshot by the Amaroq 900 unless stacked with plenty of extra damage. Regular Bulldozers will usually die to one exposed headshot on Death Wish and below. Killing a Bulldozer with bodyshots is less feasible with the Amaroq 900 than for the Thanatos due to the lesser damage, and it is still recommended to prioritize headshots on Bulldozers.
• Like the Thanatos, the Amaroq 900 can still be effective on bodyshots, if taking a headshot is unfeasible for the user. Maximum Force Responders will always fall to one bodyshot in any configuration except if using the Badlands Exclusive Set at close range without Berserker and/or Underdog.
  • Berserker at full Frenzy health combined with the Dragon Lore Exclusive will consistently kill Medics and Tasers in one body shot on Death Sentence and below. U.S Marshal Sharpshooters will also die in one hit with only this criteria below Death Sentence.
  • Berserker can be substituted with damage rampup and/or High Value Target Ace while still hitting the one bodyshot kill threshold for the aforementioned foes if using the Dragon Lore or default setup+Ijiraq Muzzle Break.
    • Adding the Ijiraq Muzzle Break with the Dragon Lore Exclusive Set will not further improve its damage. However, adding the Ice Cap Suppressor will instead subtract damage if taken instead.
• Aggressive Reload is a good pickup for the Amaroq 900 no matter the modifications it has, cutting down on reloading. Graze and Ammo Efficiency provide better crowd killing capabilities and less ammo problems, respectively.
• The overwhelming damage will shatter U.S. Marshal Shield shields anywhere on the shield, but if the bullet hits the enemy anywhere on the body or head via penetration, it will still count as an instant kill without breaking the shield. Angered Marshal Shields will fall to one headshot in any configuration.

Although the main flashlight has a toggle switch, the laser sight component of the LED Combo is pressure-activated, meaning the laser will stay on as long as the pressure switch is depressed. This switch is not placed where it should be, however (on foregrips, magazine wells, etc...) and is instead ziptied to the main taclight, leaving no plausible mean for the user to toggle it without awkwardly moving their off hand off the weapon and gripping the attachment itself. After the release of the Gage Mod Courier DLC, it was reverted to the regular sight's red dot. It is functionally the same as the standard Military Red Dot Sight, but the sight's casing is tan instead of black with the line "A-10" scrawled on near the adjustment knob. The sticker on the lens cap's interior also says "I <3 Payday" instead of having a picture of an American flag. This sight was based on the Aimpoint CompM2 optic. Note(s) In its original setup, this is your standard high spec telescopic sight, but it's been fitted with some auxiliary software and hardware, which adds the following functions: Range Finder Allows you to accurately measure distances up to 200m, displayed on the actual unit and in the reticle. Practical use for this is dubious at best considering that bullets in Payday 2 use hitscan mechanics and have no simulated gravity or windage effects. Furthermore, very few in game locations exist where targets can be engaged from even remotely close to 200 meters away. However, it can be extremely helpful in obtaining the Far, Far Away achievement, as it makes identifying enemies that are at 40m or further much easier. Auto-Tagger In stealth, the scope will automatically tag any enemy you sweep your sights over, and once the alarm has been sounded, it'll auto-tag specials. This acts similarly to the effects of High Value Target Aced, and having the skill will also cause the increased damage and mark duration. Ret with a Barrett Optical Ranging System (a.k.a. Ballistic CPU) installed. The Theia Magnified Scope's in-game optic is extremely simplified compared to the real BORS. The system, when paired with a magnification scope, would show indications of humidity, environmental temperature, barometric pressure and projectile elevation/depression for precise compensation, which the in-game scope lacks, though seeing as every sniper rifle in the game uses a hitscan system to determine shot placement, the other miscellaneous functionalities are likely not needed. When aiming down the sight, there is a dim "Y" above the "M" that stands for meters. This dimmed letter would stand for Yards, a different unit of distance measurement. Since the game only uses the metric system, the reason for this being there isn't exactly clear. The Theia Magnified Scope currently has the largest magnification(5x) in the game. In Greek mythology, Theia was the Titan goddess of sight and shining light of the clear blue sky. The method of obtaining the sight is ironic to an almost bizarre degree as it's intended for precision shots at long range and not for something that in reality would be haphazard to the point of being insane (i.e. Zip-line Rifling). • The Amaroq 900 is based off the Accuracy International AT308.
• The Amaroq 900 has multiple references to the incarnation of the AWP in the Counter-Strike series, possibly coinciding with the upcoming release of Counter-Strike 2 (at the time of its introduction).
  • The Amaroq 900's description in the store page of the McShay Weapon Pack describes it as being "modeled after one of the most famous sniper rifles in all of gaming", which refers to the AWP's overall infamy owing to its one-shot kill properties in Counter-Strike.
  • The weapon's description references "peeking", a common tactic in the Counter-Strike series.
  • One of its exclusive sets is the Dragon Lore, a skin for the AWP in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. The skin is notorious for being one of the most expensive skins in Counter-Strike, with prices ranging around $3,786.40 to $432,731.83 in USD today.
