Description
A single-action pistol with the punch of a rifle, while counting as a secondary sniper. This unique weapon is a treasure of any arsenal, moddable to fill the role of a seriously accurate, high-concealment pistol or even a pin-point accurate long-range sniper with the simple addition of a stock and scope.

The Aran G2 is a secondary sniper rifle in PAYDAY 2, available to those who own the McShay Weapon Pack 3 DLC.

Overview

The Aran G2 fits into the secondary slot, much like the Pronghorn and North Star sniper rifles, but has the highest damage of the secondary snipers, matching the Nagant and R93. This gives the Aran G2 high one hit kill potential, theoretically always topped with with good aiming and/or scavenging. The Aran G2 has the highest concealment potential of all sniper rifles, giving players prioritizing dodge and critical chances a hard-hitting alternative, and has the capability of hitting 100 accuracy for pixel-perfect precision at any distance. It also sports one of the fastest reloads of any weapon in the game, only narrowly losing to the Plainsrider Bow.

With its Exclusive Set, the Aran G2 becomes the third-highest damaging sniper in the game at 520 damage, only beaten by the Amaroq 900 and the Thanatos .50 cal.

However, the weapon only carries 10 rounds (reduced to 9 with the Exclusive set), has an exceptionally low rate of fire despite its fast reloading, unimpressive base accuracy, and it is strictly single shot only, requiring a reload after each shot. It also lacks room for a laser and/or flashlight gadget, which may hinder hipfiring.

That said, as long as the user is comfortable with one shot at a time and doesn't miss too often, few weapons can compete with its per-shot power.

As a sniper rifle, damage ramps up at long range rather than falling off. Ramp up begins at 26 meters and damage increases linearly, up to 30% bonus damage at 31 meters.

Summary

Pros:

  • Can one-shot Shields to the body, it also pierces shields.
  • Exclusive Set makes it have the third highest damage for a sniper rifle in the game, only beaten by the Thanatos .50 cal and Amaroq 900.
• Efficient pickup rate, enabled by its high damage
• Fast reloads of only 1 second, can be sped up even further with Aggressive Reload
  • As of Update 241 it can fire abnormally fast with reload speed boosts
• Has multiple mods that allow for multiple different configurations
• Acceptable base concealment, highest potential concealment of all sniper rifles(28)
• Occupies the secondary slot, allowing a more close-range suited primary to be taken

Cons:

• Strictly single shot only; must reload after each shot
  • One of the worst weapons to defend against Tasers
• Nominally the slowest ROF of all sniper rifles, even slower than the Thanatos, limiting infinite ammo tactics
  • This is alleviated with reload speed boosts
• Only 10 rounds to work with, 9 with the Exclusive Set
• Poor base accuracy for a sniper rifle
• Does not receive the 5% damage bonus of Fast and Furious.

After the release of the Gage Mod Courier DLC, it was reverted to the regular sight's red dot. It is functionally the same as the standard Military Red Dot Sight, but the sight's casing is tan instead of black with the line "A-10" scrawled on near the adjustment knob. The sticker on the lens cap's interior also says "I <3 Payday" instead of having a picture of an American flag. This sight was based on the Aimpoint CompM2 optic. Note(s) In its original setup, this is your standard high spec telescopic sight, but it's been fitted with some auxiliary software and hardware, which adds the following functions: Range Finder Allows you to accurately measure distances up to 200m, displayed on the actual unit and in the reticle. Practical use for this is dubious at best considering that bullets in Payday 2 use hitscan mechanics and have no simulated gravity or windage effects. Furthermore, very few in game locations exist where targets can be engaged from even remotely close to 200 meters away. However, it can be extremely helpful in obtaining the Far, Far Away achievement, as it makes identifying enemies that are at 40m or further much easier. Auto-Tagger In stealth, the scope will automatically tag any enemy you sweep your sights over, and once the alarm has been sounded, it'll auto-tag specials. This acts similarly to the effects of High Value Target Aced, and having the skill will also cause the increased damage and mark duration. Note: Due to a bug in the current version of the game, this scope is unable to mark enemies in stealth. This is not intended. Ret with a Barrett Optical Ranging System (a.k.a. Ballistic CPU) installed. The Theia Magnified Scope's in-game optic is extremely simplified compared to the real BORS. The system, when paired with a magnification scope, would show indications of humidity, environmental temperature, barometric pressure and projectile elevation/depression for precise compensation, which the in-game scope lacks, though seeing as every sniper rifle in the game uses a hitscan system to determine shot placement, the other miscellaneous functionalities are likely not needed. When aiming down the sight, there is a dim "Y" above the "M" that stands for meters. This dimmed letter would stand for Yards, a different unit of distance measurement. Since the game only uses the metric system, the reason for this being there isn't exactly clear. The Theia Magnified Scope currently has the largest magnification(5x) in the game. In Greek mythology, Theia was the Titan goddess of sight and shining light of the clear blue sky. The method of obtaining the sight is ironic to an almost bizarre degree as it's intended for precision shots at long range and not for something that in reality would be haphazard to the point of being insane (i.e. Zip-line Rifling). Tips

• Graze is perhaps the most beneficial skill to have for the Aran G2, as it will struggle to combat crowds without it. Ammo Efficiency will help it avoid running dry if the user cannot retrieve ammo from fallen foes.
• While there is no option for a flashlight/laser gadget, one should use the motion sickness dot in the Accessibility Options menu as a minuscule crosshair. This also benefits guns that lack similar modifications, like the Repeater 1874.
• Despite the weapon's slow listed rate of fire, as of Update 241 it can fire as fast as it can reload, rivaling the firing speed of sniper rifles like the North Star but with substantially higher damage. Aggressive Reload, Bloodthirst Aced, and even Inspire accelerate its reload speed, and it can effectively fire as fast as the user can pull the trigger with the rapid reloads.
  • Bulletstorm and/or Swan Song ace lets the Aran G2 fire without reloading, but it won't get many shots off before the effects wear off due to the sluggish rate of fire. The reload speed effects are key to boost its damage output.
• The Aran G2 will kill any enemy weaker than Bulldozers, angered U.S. Marshal Shields, and boss enemies in a single headshot without any other damage boosts on all difficulties. Regular Shields will always fall to one bodyshot.
  • Taking Berserker Ace with 10% health (revival health on Mayhem+) and Underdog will kill Maximum Force Responders in one bodyshot on all difficulties, without needing damage ramp-up or the Long Barrel.
    • The Exclusive Set provides 520 damage. Berserker Ace at 10% health with the Exclusive Set will provide enough damage to consistently kill Maximum Force Responders on the body for all ranges and difficulties, without requiring any other damage boosts. Adding critical hits and/or Shotgun Overkill Ace to all the above criteria will one-bodyshot all enemies weaker than Cloakers on all difficulties.
• Fully Loaded changes the ammo capacity to 13 rounds without the Exclusive Set. With the Exclusive Set, the ammo capacity changes to 11.
  • Taking the +1 extra ammo stat boost and Fully Loaded will not increase the total ammo without the Exclusive Set. However, taking the Exclusive Set, the ammo boost, and Fully Loaded will grant 12 rounds.
  • Acing the skill will not increase pickup, still locked to one round per pickup
• Maximum concealment potential is 28 via Concealment boost, Short Barrel, Phantom Suppressor with Optical Illusions, Bounty Grip+Starlight Stock, and Sylux Iron Sight.
  • The maximum concealment potential for the Exclusive Set is 16 via Phantom Suppressor with Optical Illusions, Sylux Iron Sight, and a concealment stat boost. With Inner Pockets and another 30+ concealment primary, one can comfortably remain below 20 detection risk.
    • The Aran G2 can easily hit 100 accuracy just through mods alone: Long Barrel, Phantom Suppressor, Kanden Foregrip, Bounty Grip+Wartorn Stock, Biometric/Trace Optic sight, and an accuracy stat boost. Skills like Steady Grip and Marksman can provide more accuracy to a concealment configuration.
• Be VERY wary of Tasers, as the Aran G2 has only one chance to immediately kill the Taser when the shocks come out. Swapping to a higher capacity primary or taking Shockproof is recommended to avoid getting stunned and likely incapacitated.
• The Copycat Perk Deck allows the Aran G2 to be used as a more emergency backup weapon, swapping faster to fire one powerful shot to finish off an additional enemy, then swapping back to the primary and reloading via the perk deck's reload-on-kill cards.
