Description
A semi-automatic sniper that’s fast, fierce and furious - the true choice of pros. With this one, you can keep your head up high, because everyone else that isn’t completely bonkers will stay low. Easy to handle in the heat of battle with a fast reload and rapid gunfire.

The Contractor .308 is a sniper rifle added with the release of the John Wick Heists Pack.

Overview

The Contractor .308 is the second semi automatic sniper rifle to be made available in game. On Overkill and below, it has the potential to kill most common units with one bodyshot (MFR units require a headshot or a damage boosting skill to be one-shot), Cloakers, Tasers, and Shields (through their shield) with one headshot. Bulldozers require two headshots, though their faceplate and visor must be removed first. The semi-automatic firing mode allows the user to fire off more shots per second than possible with other sniper rifles.

This gun also offers high concealment for a sniper rifle, sporting a generous 16 by default and a maximum of 25(though additional DLC is required); this allows the Contractor to be used in a Dodge build, albeit one with Aced Low Blow and Sneaky Bastard. However, it can be used with the Basic versions if the player combines Optical Illusions Aced with a high Concealment secondary, such as the Bronco .44, Parabellum, Bernetti 9, or Gruber Kurz.

As a sniper rifle, damage ramps up at long range rather than falling off. Ramp up begins at 20 meters and damage increases linearly, up to 10% bonus damage at 25 meters.

Summary

Tips

• The Contractor .308 is a versatile sniper rifle, due to it having the fastest rate of fire out of all sniper rifles in the game. It can be used to quickly wipe out groups of common units, even certain special units like shields, provided headshots are scored. This can be a viable strategy sufficient enough to be a substitute for incendiary and explosive ammo if keeping civilians alive are a priority and ensuring team members are not harmed.
• For those that find the Contractor .308's damage too underwhelming for its role, consider replacing its scope with a low-magnification optic and use it as they would an M308 locked to single-fire. They handle roughly the same way, though the Contractor can pierce shields and plate armor and is vastly more compact to boot, making it an even better choice for stealth when modified. The only issue with this approach is ammo, but even that can be easily remedied with Fully Loaded Ace or just by being particularly diligent at hoarding drops as the Contractor has a good ammo pickup rate.
• While it does have an excellent rate of fire for a sniper rifle, the very low stability can be a major deterrent in landing accurate shots thus forcing users to fire slowly unless needed or obtain skills such as Stable Shot (and The Professional if the Contractor .308 is silenced).
  • Because the weapon fires in single-shot mode, the Sharpshooter skills can accommodate well with the sniper rifle, especially with Ammo Efficiency due to it being able to score headshots quickly if wielded in the right hands.
• The primary weakness of the Contractor is when dealing with Bulldozers at higher difficulties, due to their high health. It can take many shots to kill one and to recover from the spent ammunition. It is recommended to carry a SMG with a high rate of fire to deal with them or a grenade launcher to remove their facial metal plates.
• Maximum potential concealment is 25 via CASSIAN iron sights, Contractor Silencer + Optical Illusions, Concealment boost, Straight/Titanium Skeleton Grip, 45 Degree Iron Sights, and a Folding Stock.

UTG LED Weapon light and Laser. Although the main flashlight has a toggle switch, the laser sight component of the LED Combo is pressure-activated, meaning the laser will stay on as long as the pressure switch is depressed. This switch is not placed where it should be, however (on foregrips, magazine wells, etc...) and is instead ziptied to the main taclight, leaving no plausible mean for the user to toggle it without awkwardly moving their off hand off the weapon and gripping the attachment itself. After the release of the Gage Mod Courier DLC, it was reverted to the regular sight's red dot. It is functionally the same as the standard Military Red Dot Sight, but the sight's casing is tan instead of black with the line "A-10" scrawled on near the adjustment knob. The sticker on the lens cap's interior also says "I <3 Payday" instead of having a picture of an American flag. This sight was based on the Aimpoint CompM2 optic. Note(s) In its original setup, this is your standard high spec telescopic sight, but it's been fitted with some auxiliary software and hardware, which adds the following functions: Range Finder Allows you to accurately measure distances up to 200m, displayed on the actual unit and in the reticle. Practical use for this is dubious at best considering that bullets in Payday 2 use hitscan mechanics and have no simulated gravity or windage effects. Furthermore, very few in game locations exist where targets can be engaged from even remotely close to 200 meters away. However, it can be extremely helpful in obtaining the Far, Far Away achievement, as it makes identifying enemies that are at 40m or further much easier. Auto-Tagger In stealth, the scope will automatically tag any enemy you sweep your sights over, and once the alarm has been sounded, it'll auto-tag specials. This acts similarly to the effects of High Value Target Aced, and having the skill will also cause the increased damage and mark duration. Ret with a Barrett Optical Ranging System (a.k.a. Ballistic CPU) installed. The Theia Magnified Scope's in-game optic is extremely simplified compared to the real BORS. The system, when paired with a magnification scope, would show indications of humidity, environmental temperature, barometric pressure and projectile elevation/depression for precise compensation, which the in-game scope lacks, though seeing as every sniper rifle in the game uses a hitscan system to determine shot placement, the other miscellaneous functionalities are likely not needed. When aiming down the sight, there is a dim "Y" above the "M" that stands for meters. This dimmed letter would stand for Yards, a different unit of distance measurement. Since the game only uses the metric system, the reason for this being there isn't exactly clear. The Theia Magnified Scope currently has the largest magnification in the game. In Greek mythology, Theia was the Titan goddess of sight and shining light of the clear blue sky. The method of obtaining the sight is ironic to an almost bizarre degree as it's intended for precision shots at long range and not for something that in reality would be haphazard to the point of being insane (i.e. Zip-line Rifling). • The Frenzy (Contractor 308 | Frenzy) skin was inspired by 80's retro sci-fi and Hotline Miami.

Trivia

• The Contractor .308 was modeled after the Taran Tactical Innovations TR-1 Ultra-light, ostensibly as a reference to the same weapon as it appeared in John Wick: Chapter Two. Adding the Contractor Grip and Stock to the weapon further replicates the movie gun's looks. The in-game rifle sports a Lancer Systems L7AWM .308 Winchester magazine and Cobra Tactical angled foregrip.
  • While Wick's TR-1 is an AR-15 platform in the movie (and in reality, TTI do not offer their TR-1 rifles in any caliber but 5.56x45mm/.223 Remington), the in-game iteration of the gun is, strangely enough, chambered in .308 Winchester, making it an AR-10.
    • While it could be handwaved as the rifle being a custom order, the rifle itself sports a Noveske 5.56 upper receiver.
  • For some reason, Contractor 308's lower receiver model has its fire selector pointed at where the "Auto" notch would be, despite the TR-1 in reality being limited to semi-auto (which is how it works in-game as well) and safe options only, as well as having only "SAFE" and "FIRE" markings on its texture.
  • The "Taran Tactical Innovations" branding on the receiver has been spoofed into "Tecci Tactical Operations".
