Cutting Shot

As long as you have EDGE, your armor penetration is increased.

Mechanics[]

All weapons have an unlisted armor penetration value. When shooting at an armored target, the target's armor hardness is checked against the weapon's penetration value with the following calculation:

Health Damage† = Weapon Damage - (Weapon Damage * (Armor Hardness - Penetration))
†Damage dealt can not be negative or higher than the weapon's normal damage.

For reference, enemies have the following armor hardness values:

When Cutting Shot is active, all weapons receive a +10% (or 0.1) to their penetration value.

Strategy[]

With Cutting Shot, almost all weapons will deal +10% more health damage against armored targets. This is sometimes not enough to change the amount of bullets it takes to down an enemy. Likewise, the +10% EDGE damage bonus typically causes more damage than the skill itself. This does not affect the Sentry Turret, as it has its own related skill.

However, a fair amount of weapons benefit from Cutting Shot. These comparisons check against weapons under the effect of EDGE, and those with EDGE and Cutting Shot.

Assault Rifles

  • The CAR-4 reduces the number of headshots and bodyshots required to kill a Normal SWAT unit by 1.
  • The Northwest B-9 reduces the number of bodyshots required to kill a Heavy SWAT and Special unit by 1, and reduces the number of headshots required to kill a Normal SWAT, Heavy SWAT, and Special unit by 1.

Shotguns

  • The Reinfeld 900S reduces the number of headshots required to kill a Shield unit by 1. This is the most notable weapon affected, as it can now kill Shields in a single shot.

Marksman Rifles

  • The SA A144 reduces the number of bodyshots required to kill a Normal SWAT and Special unit by 1.

SMGs

  • The SG Compact-7 reduces the number of bodyshots required to kill a Heavy SWAT, Special, and Shield unit by 1, and reduces the number of headshots required to kill a Shield unit by 1.
  • The FIK PC9 reduces the number of bodyshots required to kill a Special unit by 1.

Secondaries

  • The J&M Castigo 44 reduces the number of headshots required to kill a Normal SWAT, Heavy SWAT, and Special unit by 1.
  • The VF-7S reduces the number of headshots required to kill a Shield unit by 1.
