"The Payday Gang travels to Chinatown, San Francisco, to mount a daring heist against an operation run by the infamous Golden Dagger Triad."
Announcement Page Description.

The Dragon Heist is a PAYDAY 2 heist released on March 17, 2021 with Update 204. It is the first heist contracted from Jiu Feng, though Locke provides the mission voiceover. The gang is tasked with stealing a jade dragon statue from a triad-run tea shop in San Francisco's Chinatown, and can do so silently or loudly.

Overview[]

The gang is tasked with stealing a jade dragon statue from a triad-run tea shop in San Francisco's Chinatown, and can do so silently or loudly.

Walkthrough[]

  • Disable the alarm boxes (it is recommended to start from the right side of the store as there are no civilians in that alley). All windows and doors are alarmed, though the artifact cases inside are not.
  • Secure the keycard, it is always in the room to the right of the counter, usually in one of the lockers, but also sometimes in the file cabinet or on the coatrack.
  • Open the downstairs door, which is best accessed through the back alley.
  • Gain access to the warehouse (done by pulling a red lever on the player's left at the base of the stairs). Players should note that if they do not kill the guard patrolling near the door, he will go over and close the shutters again. The shutter can be reopened from the other side.
  • Find the vault. It does not move and is always straight ahead and to the right of the warehouse entrance.
  • Find the vault keycard and vault code.
    • One keycard is dropped by a triad member, and another spawns in the warehouse office. Either can be used to activate the vault.
    • The vault code must be retrieved from the auction office. Players can pick the door to the right of the auction room's double doors, and can steal an artifact and some loose value items before turning on the lights, which will cause the auction participants to leave the auction hall. Once inside the office, there is a single older triad boss who can be killed or tied up; he drops a keychain required for opening the vault cage. There will be code instructions on the whiteboard, and players must look for nearby notepads (two in the office and two onstage in the auction hall) that can be interacted with, displaying a code numbered 1 through 4. Based on the 15-minute interval on the office clock, players must find the correct paper (i.e. if the clock says 7:25, the players look for Code 2) and enter it in the vault. Based on early playthroughs, a crowbar is guaranteed to spawn somewhere in the office, which should be taken as it is required to complete the heist.
  • Wait for the time lock. It is one minute on all difficulties.
  • Disable the lasers. There is an RFID box near the gate, and the accompanying wire boxes - which the RFID box highlights the color to - in the warehouse must be found and cut, similarly to the beginning of The White House. The boxes spawn only on the warehouse floor, near the ground. Make sure you cut the correct colored wires as indicated on the RFID box.
  • Open the cage. This is done with the keychain taken from the triad boss in the auction hall office. As with all keychains (except for the one used in hell's island), it can take a few tries.
  • Find the correct crate. This can be done by hacking the computer in the warehouse office, but that is not recommended as guards will be alerted by the hack. Players can open the crates in any order, but at least two crates will contain C4 that must quickly be defused. All other crates in the vault besides the dragon will contain gold.
  • Escape. Players may escape as soon as the dragon statue is secured, but may collect extra loot. There are a variable number of artifacts in the lobby of the tea shop, a tea set in the auction hall safe, two paintings and two artifacts in the auction hall display room, and at least two crowbar crates in the warehouse which contain coke.

  • Start hacking the lobby computer. This will take approximately 2 minutes.
    • There is an electrical box somewhere in the store that must be defended as well.
  • Find the keycard. This is identical to stealth, just get it from the lockers in the office.
  • Once downstairs, look for a GenSec box on the wall, and take the keys from it.
  • Use the keys to turn on the forklift, and drive it into the warehouse door.
  • Force the door open with the forklift (this is done with an interaction prompt).
  • Drill the vault. If you purchased the special delivery for the thermal drill, it will arrive on the street via cable car.
    • Note that police will attempt to deploy tear gas in the vents, which causes players to take damage if they're in the warehouse. If a team adequately defends the vents then tear gas deployment will be prevented and the team will earn an achievement.
  • Don't touch the cage, as it will electrocute you. Instead, head to the auction hall and hack a box that will spawn somewhere on the wall.
  • Once finished hacking, head into the auctioneer's office and grab the crowbar and blowtorch. If you want to, there is also a safe to open with extra loot.
  • Use the blowtorch to cut off the cage door.
  • Since the security system on the computer has locked up, you must guess which crate has the statue.
    • Even after finding it, you must open the rest of the crates to obtain the required amount of C4.
  • Use the C4 on the warehouse wall, and throw any loot into the sewers.
  • Escape. The van will take a minute or two to arrive, and hunkering down on the scaffolding near the sewers can help, especially on higher difficulties due to snipers.

  • Variations[]

    • The alarm box will spawn in one of four back alley locations, and resembles the exterior electric boxes from Shacklethorne Auction. Only one will have the alarm interface, which can be shot or otherwise broken.
    • The camera room will spawn to the left of the warehouse entrance or in the warehouse office. If the single triad spawns closer to the camera room, he will detect players attempting to keycard or ECM their way in.
    • There will be a single triad soldier in front of the warehouse office or, more uncommonly, near the auction hall. He can be difficult to kill if he spawns in front of the warehouse office, as a camera is usually pointing directly at him and he is in the direct path of more than one guard. There is also a pair of triads who spawn to the right of the warehouse door or in the back alley. On higher difficulties, if they spawn in the back alley, the guard that is normally there will patrol the warehouse instead. They can also be difficult to kill as a camera is usually pointed directly at them, and if spawned in the warehouse, they will detect players attempting to loop the nearby camera.
    • To the right after entering the warehouse, there will either be two triad soldiers or a single guard. The soldiers do not carry pagers, but the guard does.

    Mayhem+ Differences[]

    • All cameras are Titan cameras.
    • An extra guard spawns in the back alley, and guards replace triad members in the basement and auction room.
    • The triad members are significantly stronger, and can pose problems if they are alerted on higher difficulties.

    • All the Gold in Chinatown The additional loot in the heist are:
      • a tea set which is found in a safe in the back office of the auction room.
      • 6 artifacts (2 of which are paintings). In the room next to the auction room, there are 2 normal artifacts and 2 paintings. It is advised to bag all 4 artifacts in this room before turning on the lights as everyone will flood into the room. The last 2 artifacts are in the tea shop itself, both inside glass cases which need to be lockpicked.
      • 4 bags of gold are found in the vault room.
      • 3 bags of coke in shipping containers. 2 coke containers are found in the warehouse and the last one is in the room between the warehouse and auction room.

  • For The Mad Hatter is a reference to The Mad Hatter from Lewis Carroll's 1865 book Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, who is frozen in time forever stuck at 6pm in an endless tea party. The Hatter tried to sing to the foul-tempered Queen of Hearts who sentenced him to death by decapitation. Father Time retaliated and froze The Mad Hatter in time out of respect for him. The "Laohu Dashi" outfit is a reference to Bruce Lee and his yellow jumpsuit. The name translates to "Tiger Master", referencing the black and yellow colors of the outfit.

  • Trivia[]

    • The +1,000 XP for disabling the gas can only be earned if the gas was deployed in the first place.
    • There is a Pre-Planning favor that opens a warehouse window, but players cannot fit through it, it is likely for bag moving. However, in stealth there are patrolling guards and stationary triad members there while in loud the window is very easy to break.
    • In the auction showroom, there are two statues in GenSec-secured cases, but they are not lootable.
    • The warehouse can be easily secured with multiple people, as there are 2 roaming guards, the camera operator, and 3 triad members. The triad members do not carry pagers. However, it may be worth hiding all bodies, as guards in the basement may see them.
    • This is the first heist release-wise since No Mercy to feature the standard law enforcement enemies in loud.
    • This is also the first heist since The Biker Heist to feature drivable vehicles (excluding the Blackhawk and Hajrudin's car, both of which are rideable but not drivable), utilizing the Forklift for entering the warehouse if the heist goes loud.
    • Chas interactable alarmbox trivia

Hidden details on the alarm box.

In the texture of the alarm box you need to punch, there is a QR Code you can scan which directs to a video of Rick Astley - Never Gonna Give You Up.
      • In the same texture the developer left behind some pieces of text, such as: "if you can read this you've ripped the model" and "ye-ye ass haircut".

    Bugs[]

There seems to be a bug that disables the escape in stealth. If any player picks up the c4 inside the crates in the vault after disabling them, the escape van may no longer be usable until the heist is forced into loud. Due to this, it is highly recommended to skip picking up the c4 from inside of the crates. Only picking the extra loot or Jade Statue will prevent this.
