The Flintlock Freddy was a primary sniper rifle in PAYDAY 2 and was available during the 10th Anniversary Event, unlocked after completing the Smash And Grab sidejob after the community gave 3,000,000 bags of piggy bucks to the piggy bank.

As of the conclusion of the 10th Anniversary Event, it is rendered unavailable to purchase or equip.

Overview[]

The Flintlock Freddy is the most damaging weapon on a per-shot basis in PAYDAY 2 at a monstrous 10,000 damage per shot, dwarfing the Thanatos .50 cal. The only weapon that can compete with its damage is the HRL-7 at 12,500 damage, but unlike the HRL-7, the Flintlock Freddy can score headshots, utilize critical hits for more damage, and gains extra damage against special units. It is also classified as a sniper rifle, receiving damage ramp up while piercing multiple enemies and surfaces.

The Flintlock Freddy also has a unique x5 modifier against all special units(any enemy that can be marked via shouts or High Value Target aiming), which means even Minigun Bulldozers will die in one shot on Death Sentence.

The tradeoff is that the Flintlock Freddy is a strictly single-shot sniper rifle like the Aran G2, which makes it terrible against Tasers. It also has the second-longest reload of any weapon at eleven seconds, only slightly faster than a full Piglet reload. It has only six concealment, making it almost impossible to use with a dodge/crit build, unless one brings a 30+ concealment secondary (such as the Chimano 88, Bernetti 9, or Gruber Kurz.) The only modifications available are a bayonet like the Nagant's, a stat boost, and cosmetic charm/paintjobs. The high threat may also make enemies more prone to diving out of the way or focusing on attacking the user, which can hinder aiming.

In the end, it is perhaps the most polarizing weapon in the game, and is best suited to instantly assassinating special units while steering clear of Tasers.

Summary[]

Pros:

  • 10,000 damage a shot and can go higher with headshots/rampup/critical hits, becoming the strongest weapon on a per-shot basis
    • The Fast And Furious perk from any completed perk deck brings this up to 10,500, and up to 18,900 at 30 meters of distance.
    • Berserker and/or shotgun Overkill grant even more ludicrous damage.
  • Almost perfect base accuracy of 92 and can easily hit 100 for pixel-perfect precision.
  • Classified as a sniper rifle, thus has armor piercing effects.
  • Relatively high rate of fire at 60 rounds per minute; stronger Bulletstorm and/or Swan Song tactics than the Aran G2. Especially against bosses.
  • Deals 5x bonus damage against special enemies, effectively one-shotting any non-boss enemy regardless of difficulty.
  • Pairs amazingly with Graze

Cons:

  • Strictly single shot only and an agonizing 11 second reload.
    • One of the worst weapons to defend against Tasers.
    • Can be improved with Aggressive Reload aced.
  • Third lowest base concealment of all sniper rifles at 6, barely better than the Thanatos and Rattlesnake.
    • Same ammo count of 15 rounds as the Thanatos and Dragon Lore Amaroq 900 Exclusive Set
  • High threat makes it more likely enemies will target the user or dive out of the way, making it harder to take shots
  • No laser/flashlight gadgets to help aiming.
    • Only modifications are the bayonet, stat boost, and cosmetics.
  • Zero stability

Tips[]

  • Graze is perhaps the most essential skill to use with the Flintlock Freddy, as it will struggle to combat crowds without it.
    • However, the aced version's full effects only function on headshots, and the Flintlock Freddy will kill almost any foe with one bodyshot. If one can't take a good headshot, taking a safer shot on the body is recommended.
  • Aggressive Reload and/or Bloodthirst are all but mandatory to hasten its excessively long reloading.
    • Aggressive Reload ace alone will lower the reload time to 5.16s on headshot, which can be lowered to 4.18s with Bloodthirst ace. This can be further lowered to 3.04s with Running From Death basic.
    • While obscure, this can be further lowered with Accelerator to 2.67s, with the fastest possible speed from including Rapid Reloader at 2.52s.
    • The Copycat perk deck is also a good choice for the Flintlock Freddy, due to the holstered reloading and bonus swap speed after killing enough enemies.
  • While the gun lacks a laser sight like the Aran G2, one can enable the motion sickness dot in the accessibility options to use as a minuscule crosshair.
    • Steady Grip brings the gun to 100 accuracy, meaning the bullets will always go exactly where the dot is.
  • Be VERY wary of Tasers, as the user will have exactly one chance to instantly shoot the Tazer if zapped. Taking Shockproof Ace and/or a higher-capacity secondary is recommended for Taser protection.
  • Either Bulletstorm or Swan Song Aced can briefly turn the Flintlock Freddy in a semi-auto Railgun with infinite ammo. This is best employed for shredding through bosses with their enormous health pools and high damage resistances.
  • All special enemies take x5 extra damage from the Flintlock and are killed instantly regardless of difficulty and/or where they were shot.
  • The lowest detection risk one can achieve with the Flintlock Freddy is 26 with either the Bernetti 9/Gruber Kurz modified to reach 34 concealment. While it almost allows the full benefits of Low Blow aced, Critical Hits are less useful on the Flintlock Freddy as it already kills non-boss enemies instantly, and can already cripple most bosses with just one shot anyway.
    • Overkill and Berserker make better alternatives as they'll offer more consistent damage bonuses.

Trivia[]

  • The Flintlock Freddy is based off the Brown Bess, or the Land Pattern Musket.
    • The sheer damage of this weapon is most certainly exaggerated for comical reasons, as there is no other logical explanation for how a nearly 300-year old flintlock is able to do more damage than a .50 BMG rifle.
      • Equally strange is its absurdly high accuracy at extreme distances for a smoothbore round ball musket. Soldiers armed with early flintlock-pattern firearms had to take windage into serious account, and most, if not all similar firearms at the time of the 18th century were wildly inaccurate beyond 15 meters before rifling became common practice among gun manufacturers.
    • Musket ammunition is known to be somewhat less than stellar against armor. In fact, against soft armor it may fail to cause lethal injuries, even if blunt impact becomes debilitating, the enemy might just get back up. Against hard rifle-protective armor such as the type worn by SWAT, it may fail to do anything more than knock them back a pace if that.
  • It is one of the oldest weapons in the gang's entire arsenal, only surpassed by weapons such as the Great Sword, Heavy Crossbow, and the English Longbow. Only focusing on firearms, it is the oldest conventional firearm in the gang's possession.
  • Despite being removed, the weapon remain in the files.
