A real battlefield workhorse, the GECKO rifle design borrows heavily from the AK family, with a gas-operated rotating bolt mechanism, but improves on the original with several design features (notably a milled steel receiver, and an ambidextrous cocking handle). The weapon is heavily modifiable, and can be customised to fit most scenarios.
The Gecko 7.62 is an excellent all-rounder. With the correct upgrades, it will perform better than most assault rifles in the game. The only downsides would be low concealment, fast ammo drainage, and to some players, lower ammo.
It has a fairly high rate of fire and is capable of performing headshots from the hip with incredible accuracy.
It is very efficient with ammo pickups. For holdout heists such as Rats Day 1, players may have difficulty managing ammo levels, although on more mobile combat heists such as Hoxton Breakout Day 1 this issue is largely negated, especially with the Walk-In Closet perk.
Due to the wide array of mods available for it, the Gecko 7.62 is incredibly adaptive and versatile. When correctly upgraded, it becomes ideal for any heist except stealth missions.

All-Round Assault Rifle[]
This build takes advantage of of the Gecko 7.62 strengths with high damage (70), decent accuracy (68) and high stability (96) for easy recoil control while firing. Skills will be necessary to increases its accuracy.
The CQB Foregrip was based on the short handguard of the IMI Galil MAR or "Micro Galil" for short. The actual MAR foregrip and barrel combo were never offered in the Gecko's caliber, though.
The Marmon Compensator is based on the Kel-Tec KSG V6 muzzle brake. For some reason, it is treated as a general-purpose muzzle brake for non-shotgun "rifle-sized" weapons, despite being designed and made specifically for the KSG-12 which, strangely enough, isn't compatible with this specific item.
For whatever reason, this muzzle is meant for 308/7.62 NATO, depending on which model of rifles and machine guns that is within that caliber, but it can also be used for the majority of submachine guns, which wouldn't fit with this specific item.
For some reason, this suppressor is meant for 5.56 NATO, depending on which model of (assault) rifles is, but it can also be used for the majority of submachine guns and all LMG's, despite being designed and specifically made for KAC ChainSAW and Stoner 96 and its LMG counterpart, which wouldn't fit with this specific item.

Although the main flashlight has a toggle switch, the laser sight component of the LED Combo is pressure-activated, meaning the laser will stay on as long as the pressure switch is depressed. This switch is not placed where it should be, however (on foregrips, magazine wells, etc...) and is instead ziptied to the main taclight, leaving no plausible mean for the user to toggle it without awkwardly moving their off hand off the weapon and gripping the attachment itself.
Requires a pre-installed sight mod to mount. This mod is not available for Rodion 3B assault rifle, Piglet, Arbiter grenade launcher and all shotguns except Deimos.

Requires a pre-installed sight mod to mount. The magnification level can be changed while aiming down the sights, and the aiming FOV will automatically adjust itself. Not compatible with the Acough Optic, Military Red Dot, Milspec Scope, Combat Sight, Reconnaissance Sight, Theia Magnified Scope, Box Buddy Sight, the JP36's Original Sight, the Raven's Flip-up Sight or the GROM and Platypus 70's iron sights. Currently bugged and not appearing as intended on certain weapons, for a list see here. They're still listed below even if broken. Shows incompatibility with the Deagle's Marksman Sight, however they are allowed to be installed simultaneously. This mod is not available for AK 7.62, its golden variant, KETCHNOV Byk-1, Valkyria, Rodion 3B assault rifle, some SMGs and some shotguns.
The Riktpunkt Magnifier Gadget is based on the Aimpoint 3XMag attached to a toggle mount. Despite this, the mod's asset file name suggests it was based on the EOTech XPS G33 instead.
The magnifier will toggle on and off by itself when in use without any visual input by the player character.
The JP36 carbines wielded by the GenSec Elites have this gadget installed in conjunction with a Compact Holosight, however it didn't become a player-usable item until 2017.

Upon release, the default reticle of this sight was a chevron instead of the retail version's red dot. After the release of the Gage Mod Courier DLC, it was reverted to the regular sight's red dot.
It is functionally the same as the standard Military Red Dot Sight, but the sight's casing is tan instead of black with the line "A-10" scrawled on near the adjustment knob. The sticker on the lens cap's interior also says "I <3 Payday" instead of having a picture of an American flag.
This sight was based on the Aimpoint CompM2 optic. While it is portrayed as a high-zoom scope in-game, the CompM2 is actually a reflex sight, meaning it offers no magnification in reality.

This modification seems to have been based on a Sightmark Sure Shot, though altered somehow as it has a perfectly vertical lens frame while the supposed base model had a slightly-trapezoidal one.
•This mod is incompatible with some secondary sights. •This mod is not available for Rodion 3B, VD-12 Shotgun, SG Versteckt 51D, Akron HC & Aran G2 Sniper rifle.
The Reconnaissance Sight is based on the NcSTAR Advanced Dual Optic, but instead of an integral flip-up reflex sight, the in-game model has a rangefinder.

It is based on the IMI Galil ARM 7.62, as pointed out by the bipod, the old wooden handguard, and boxy magazine.
The rifle was prominently displayed in the movie Heat, one of Payday's main sources of inspiration, being wielded by Michael Cheritto during the bank heist. The only difference to the source material was the caliber - the rifle in the movie was chambered for the more common 5.56x45mm round.
Strangely, the 25-round straight box magazine of the Galil 7.62 holds 35 rounds in-game. The magazine was also one of the few to show bullets inside it when reloading before Update #65. In this case, the Gecko's magazine is loaded with precisely one round, with a plainly-visible baseplate underneath.
The in-game Gecko 7.62 has somewhat unrealistically high rate of fire (at 800+ rounds per minute) as the real-life IMI Galil have a cyclic rate of fire between 630-750 rounds per minute.
It is one of the three assault rifles in the game that don't have their Threat levels completely nullified by adding a suppressor. The M308 is left with 8, Gewehr 3 is left with 4, and the Gecko retains 2 Threat.
Until the addition of functioning bipods for the LMG's, the Gecko was the only gun in the game with a deployed bipod. Unlike the LMG bipods, the Gecko's is still completely decorative.
The Gecko 7.62 has the highest number of unique mods in the game at a remarkable 11, beating the previous #1 Falcon by 2 items.
The Military Laser Module clips through the Gecko's carry handle when equipped.
As with the Gewehr 3, the attachments transform the rifle substantially.
The Light Foregrip turns the Gecko into a Galil SAR, as evidenced by the shorter barrel.
The Sniper Foregrip and Stock combo turn the rifle into the Galatz (Galil Tzalafim - "Galil Sniper"), a designated marksman version.
The Light Stock and Sniper Grip both belong to the SR-99, a modernized variant almost identical to the Galatz. However, the matching polymer-furniture version of the sniper foregrip isn't in the game.
The CQB Foregrip and Skeletal Stock turn the Gecko into a modern Galil MAR or Micro Galil. The real-life carbine was never produced in this caliber.
The Fabulous Foregrip and Stock combo is both a reference to FAB-Defense, the aftermarket manufacturer responsible for the parts. The rails belong on an AR or ARM, the stock is from an older MAR.
The Wooden Stock and Plastic Stock are both original ARM accessories from IMI. The stats reflect their intended purpose - the plastic cheekpiece assists head positioning with a scope and the wooden block is more suitable for general LMG usage.
