Mrs. White's Notes
If Stalin ever needed a poster boy for the term "Crazy Ivan", then Kurgan is the man. Even among a military as fierce as the Red Army, his capacity for violence stands out. A little too much, in fact. His unit was betrayed by their own officer in Leningrad, and it seems Kurgan took a rather dim view of that. He went on a one man crusade and tracked the traitor to a fortified German hill at Kursk. By the light of a pyre of burning corpses, he killed every single man between him and the traitor, whose head he cleaved with a spade. How lovely. He was tried - in absentia - for insubordination and sentenced to death, but that doesn't seem to have reduced his enthusiasm for killing "fascists" in the least.

Kurgan is a hyper-violent ex-Red Army soldier and one of the key founding members of the Raid crew.

Kurgan's default class is Insurgent Raidclass insurgent

Trivia[]

  • Kurgan face tex
Though Kurgan's face is never clearly visible in-game due to him donning his gas mask at all times, the RAID comic bundled with the Special Edition of the game depicts him with blond hair and steel blue eyes.
    • Due to his full face not being visible in-game, Kurgan's head texture does not have a mouth. Despite this, the texture still has a full head of hair.
  • Kurgan was a member of the Russian Naval Infantry, judging by the pattern on his tanktop. This is at odds with his character description, however, where he is with the land infantry instead.
    • Self-admittedly, however, Kurgan cannot swim.
  • Judging by his character design, motif and unhinged personality, Kurgan was based on Wolf.
    • Unlike Wolf, however, Kurgan is a shell-shocked veteran, and gains his insanity via post-traumatic stress disorder rather than personal tragedy. He was also noted to be quite the violent person even before the mental trauma sets in, unlike Wolf who was a regular, honest businessman before his decline.
    • Kurgan also shares some similarities with Chains; both were removed from military service due to their attitude (Chains was discharged while Kurgan was betrayed and left for dead by his own) and their tendency to speak in third person, though Kurgan does it in almost every of his lines.
  • As seen in the Special Edition comics, Kurgan's unit was sold out by their own officer at Leningrad, where he was burned by a German flamethrower, which could potentially be responsible for his deranged state of mind. As a result, he now holds a deep-seated grudge against the Flammenwerfer unit, who uses the same weapon.
  • Kurgan appears to show some degree of animosity towards Wolfgang as seen in the official trailer and his general callout lines, likely due to his hatred for Germans and them being responsible for his current state.
    • This is somewhat debatable, as Kurgan did catch the knife thrown at Wolfgang in the trailer without hesitation, hinting that the two don't actually despise each other that much despite their outwardly vitriolic relationship.
