The MP40 has high damage and a relatively low rate of fire as well as reasonably high concealment. It handles very similarly to the Swedish K, Tatonka, and CR 805B, except for the fact that the MP40 has a faster reload time, less modifications available, and does not require paid DLC.
The MP40's biggest downside is its extremely low total ammo capacity. Beside the magazine loaded, the MP40 only has one spare magazine (one and a half with Fully Loaded) and has one of the lowest ammo pickup rates in the game, making it very unsustainable and ill-suited for more prolonged firefights. This means the MP40 demands accuracy, as ammo is scarce and every round is precious and it cannot depended upon for more than dispatching a few enemies at a time, as it will run out of ammo very quickly. As such, when the MP40 runs out of ammo (which it very easily will) it is vital to have a dependable primary weapon to rely on until more ammo can be scavenged or acquired.
When it comes to skills, the Enforcer's Ammo Specialist sub-tree (especially Scavenger and Fully Loaded) can help to slightly alleviate the MP40's ammo shortage. Combining Surefire and Fully Loaded will enhance the MP40 to have 55 rounds per magazine and 100 rounds in total, making ever so slightly more sustainable.
Additionally, the Mastermind's Sharpshooter and the Technician's Oppressor sub-trees can both help to improve accuracy, allowing for more efficient use of the MP40's limited ammunition while Sneaky Bastard and Unseen Strike from the Ghost's Silent Killer sub-tree as well as Berserker and Frenzy from the Fugitive's Brawler sub-tree can be used to increase damage dealt per shot, again for increased ammo effectiveness.

The Marmon Compensator is based on the Kel-Tec KSG V6 muzzle brake. For some reason, it is treated as a general-purpose muzzle brake for non-shotgun "rifle-sized" weapons, despite being designed and made specifically for the KSG-12 which, strangely enough, isn't compatible with this specific item.
For whatever reason, this muzzle is meant for 308/7.62 NATO, depending on which model of rifles and machine guns that is within that caliber, but it can also be used for the majority of submachine guns, which wouldn't fit with this specific item.
For some reason, this suppressor is meant for 5.56 NATO, depending on which model of (assault) rifles is, but it can also be used for the majority of submachine guns and all LMG's, despite being designed and specifically made for KAC ChainSAW and Stoner 96 and its LMG counterpart, which wouldn't fit with this specific item.

Although the main flashlight has a toggle switch, the laser sight component of the LED Combo is pressure-activated, meaning the laser will stay on as long as the pressure switch is depressed. This switch is not placed where it should be, however (on foregrips, magazine wells, etc...) and is instead ziptied to the main taclight, leaving no plausible mean for the user to toggle it without awkwardly moving their off hand off the weapon and gripping the attachment itself.
Upon release, the default reticle of this sight was a chevron instead of the retail version's red dot. After the release of the Gage Mod Courier DLC, it was reverted to the regular sight's red dot.
It is functionally the same as the standard Military Red Dot Sight, but the sight's casing is tan instead of black with the line "A-10" scrawled on near the adjustment knob. The sticker on the lens cap's interior also says "I <3 Payday" instead of having a picture of an American flag.
This sight was based on the Aimpoint CompM2 optic. While it is portrayed as a high-zoom scope in-game, the CompM2 is actually a reflex sight, meaning it offers no magnification in reality.

This modification seems to have been based on a Sightmark Sure Shot, though altered somehow as it has a perfectly vertical lens frame while the supposed base model had a slightly-trapezoidal one.
•This mod is incompatible with some secondary sights. •This mod is not available for Rodion 3B, VD-12 Shotgun, SG Versteckt 51D, Akron HC & Aran G2 Sniper rifle.
The Reconnaissance Sight is based on the NcSTAR Advanced Dual Optic, but instead of an integral flip-up reflex sight, the in-game model has a rangefinder.

Tarnschmeisser is a portmanteau of the German word "tarn", meaning "camouflage", and "schmeisser", a misnomer fashioned after Hugo Schmeisser that was used to nickname the MP40 by Allied troops. Put simply, "tarnschmeisser" can be understood as "a camouflaged schmeisser (MP40)".
The in-game MP40 has an inflated magazine capacity compared to its real-world counterpart, at 40 rounds. The standard magazine size of a real MP40 would be 32 rounds if not using drums or the rare MP40/II variant which had two magazines side-by-side, for double the capacity at 64 rounds total.
The MP40's inclusion in PAYDAY 2 of all games is actually thematically fitting in a grim kind of sense, as its primary user, Nazi Germany, also engaged in widespread looting and theft of money, art and valuables during World War II. One almost gets the feeling that the PAYDAY gang, by using the gun, is paying homage to the greatest theft in history.
Previewing the MP40 in the inventory reveals that the inner sides of the receiver are not rendered.
The MP40, along with the Parabellum and Galant, are the joint second weapons to require a side job to be completed before they are usable, the first being the Arbiter.
The MP40 is held by the magazine in the game, which is inadvisable in reality due to the inherently flimsy magazine catch. Applying a low front grip stance would apply too much pressure on the system and cause a misfeed by jamming the magazine too far up the chamber.
