The Nader is a special enemy in PAYDAY 3 who focuses on area denial.
Behavior[]
The Grenadier will throw a form of gas, most likely tear gas, that damages you and prevents you from sprinting. They will gas rooms with heisters to flush them out, vaults to prevent loot from being stolen, heist-important parts, (I.E the lab in Cook Off, bollards in NRFTW, and the Tagger in Dirty Ice), chokepoints, and your bags.
The presence of hostages prevents the Grenadier from using their gas to prevent civilian damage. However, Grenadiers will flashbang rooms with hostages or heisters with a human shield. They can also be spotted flashbanging rooms that 4-5 SWAT are about to enter, providing support.
They can sometimes acknowledge someone being disabled by Cloakers or Zappers, or regularly downed players, and gas them to prevent revives or to eliminate them as a threat.
Strategies[]
Hostages completely invalidate the Naders main tool, so keep a hostage nearby at all times. Shooting their grenade belt located on the front of their armor plates also causes an explosion that will flashbang both you and nearby SWAT, so keep a safe distance when shooting them. Shooting this belt usually kills them.

Trivia[]
- The Nader is the first new special enemy to be added to PAYDAY 3 who did not originally appear in PAYDAY: The Heist or PAYDAY 2.
- The official in-universe classification of the Nader, according to SINS in the Syntax Error heist, is "Urban Pacification Officer" (U.P.O.).
- The Nader appears to be throwing gaseous zinc chloride, or Hexite Gas, as Hexite has a green appearance similar to the gas shown in game.
- Strangely, Naders don’t throw the canisters that are already on his chest rig.
- Despite wearing a gas mask, Naders will tend avoid their gas clouds.
- The Nader is seen wearing a balaclava underneath the mask, which would in reality break the seal and expose him to his own chemical attacks.
- Their only defining features are their dual-filtered gas mask, red pads, and grenade belt, so they can be easy to miss in a crowd if you're not careful.
- As quoted above, the Nader references the Geneva Convention in a mocking tone.
- There is, indeed, a Geneva Convention treaty signed in 1925 titled the "Protocol for the Prohibition of the Use in War of Asphyxiating, Poisonous or other Gases, and of Bacteriological Methods of Warfare" (or more simply the Geneva Protocol), prohibiting the usage of chemical weapons in international warfare. The protections were extended to civilians as well[1][2].
- Ironically, the Geneva Convention quite literally has no effect on the Nader's actions, as fighting the Payday gang is technically not considered an internationally armed conflict. Furthermore, the Nader avoids using tear gas grenades on hostages, making him technically abide by the restrictions of the Geneva Convention (perhaps unintentionally). Similar to killing Medics in the sequel.

- Although the Nader is meant to use flashbangs instead of gas grenades while hostages are near, occasionally, Naders may ignore hostages entirely and deploy gas grenades anyway.
- The Cloaker has certain voicelines where he berates the Nader for accidentally blinding him via flashbang, although possible to happen in game, albeit at a rare chance.
- According to the 2024 Starbreeze Studios Reddit AMA, the Nader's gas grenade is intended to be tear gas with illegal experimentations, with the Nader's odd taunts toward the Payday gang originating from experiencing chemical-induced psychotic behaviour. The full quote from the narrative designer of PAYDAY 3 can be read below[3]:
“The Nader is supposed to throw tear gas (CS-gas, also known as 2-chlorobenzalmalononitrile), which he sometimes states in his VO ("CS can, going out!"). However, they often experiment, creating illegal and, at times, highly deadly mixes that they use, which is also referenced in his VO ("Special mix, just for you!"). Through their experimentation, they have breathed in a lot of this shit, and if they were unstable before, many of them are semi-psychotic due to the exposure to these chemicals. If you look closely at his concept art, you can even see that his eyes are red due to the exposure to these chemicals. Their instability is even mentioned by the cops when they banter in Boys in Blue. So we actually have an abundance of lore for this, that can be picked up by players that pay close attention. I also wrote in this line to his VO. "Geneva Convention got nothing on me!" It's a reference to the fact that chemical warfare is illegal in war, but is available for urban pacification of civilians when used by law enforcement.“
