Description

Bolt-action, internal magazine-fed, the Nagant Sniper rifle is a military rifle, developed by the Imperial Russian Army in in(sic) the late 1800s, and used by the armed forces of the Russian Empire, the Soviet Union and virtually every country that received military aid from the Soviet Union, China, and Eastern Europe during the Cold War. It is one of the most mass produced military bolt action rifles in history, and much like the AK rifle, it has shown up in various conflicts around the world, despite its age and obsolescence. If you could consider a sniper rifle as part of a national army's weapon, then the Nagant is the longest continuously serving firearm in history, at more than 120 years and counting.

The Nagant sniper rifle is a primary weapon added with the Gage Historical Pack. It is similar in damage and ammo capacity to the R93.

Overview

The Nagant is most comparable to the R93 in terms of its stats. It is capable of higher concealment with a slightly higher rate of fire, giving it greater overall damage output. However, it is also constrained by its slightly smaller magazine and total ammo.

Much like the Platypus 70, the Nagant has an optional iron sight. When used, it replaces the default scope with a regular, fairly unobstructed ironsight.

As a sniper rifle, damage ramps up at long range rather than falling off. Ramp up begins at 20 meters and damage increases linearly, up to 80% bonus damage at 30 meters.

Summary

Cons:

• Second-lowest total ammo capacity among snipers
• Low rate of ammo pickup, akin to the other sniper rifles
• Lengthy reload and lacks a "tactical reload" option (reloading with at least one round still chambered) to save time
• Expensive
• With the Iron Sight modification, the character's hand obstructs the player's view when cycling the bolt after firing, making follow-up shots more difficult

Tips

• With the advent of more DLC, the Nagant can reach 16 concealment via Short Barrel, Concealment boost, 45 Degree Ironsights, CASSIAN Iron Sights, and the Discreet Stock. With Inner Pockets + a high concealment secondary, one's total detection risk comfortably remains below 20.
• The Bayonet attachment increases the Weapon Butt melee attack damage to 40 and changes the animation to rapid stabs. This does not affect any other melee weapon.
• Unlike most weapons, there is no reload time discrepancy when reloading from an empty magazine or a partially loaded one. This encourages all shots to be fired before reloading.

Mass production of the "Bramit" was started in mid-1941, just in time for the Continuation War. Since the exhaust control was accomplished with rubber seals instead of a machined metal maze, it could only sustain 50 shots or so before the its innards were ruined - even with the special reduced-load rounds that only had 30% of the original muzzle velocity. UTG LED Weapon light and Laser. Although the main flashlight has a toggle switch, the laser sight component of the LED Combo is pressure-activated, meaning the laser will stay on as long as the pressure switch is depressed. This switch is not placed where it should be, however (on foregrips, magazine wells, etc...) and is instead ziptied to the main taclight, leaving no plausible mean for the user to toggle it without awkwardly moving their off hand off the weapon and gripping the attachment itself. In other words, obscure your target with the small circle to it. While hip firing, the sight lines up relatively close to target, allowing easy hip fire shots at close range. After the release of the Gage Mod Courier DLC, it was reverted to the regular sight's red dot. It is functionally the same as the standard Military Red Dot Sight, but the sight's casing is tan instead of black with the line "A-10" scrawled on near the adjustment knob. The sticker on the lens cap's interior also says "I <3 Payday" instead of having a picture of an American flag. This sight was based on the Aimpoint CompM2 optic. Note(s) In its original setup, this is your standard high spec telescopic sight, but it's been fitted with some auxiliary software and hardware, which adds the following functions: Range Finder Allows you to accurately measure distances up to 200m, displayed on the actual unit and in the reticle. Practical use for this is dubious at best considering that bullets in Payday 2 use hitscan mechanics and have no simulated gravity or windage effects. Furthermore, very few in game locations exist where targets can be engaged from even remotely close to 200 meters away. However, it can be extremely helpful in obtaining the Far, Far Away achievement, as it makes identifying enemies that are at 40m or further much easier. Auto-Tagger In stealth, the scope will automatically tag any enemy you sweep your sights over, and once the alarm has been sounded, it'll auto-tag specials. This acts similarly to the effects of High Value Target Aced, and having the skill will also cause the increased damage and mark duration. Ret with a Barrett Optical Ranging System (a.k.a. Ballistic CPU) installed. The Theia Magnified Scope's in-game optic is extremely simplified compared to the real BORS. The system, when paired with a magnification scope, would show indications of humidity, environmental temperature, barometric pressure and projectile elevation/depression for precise compensation, which the in-game scope lacks, though seeing as every sniper rifle in the game uses a hitscan system to determine shot placement, the other miscellaneous functionalities are likely not needed. When aiming down the sight, there is a dim "Y" above the "M" that stands for meters. This dimmed letter would stand for Yards, a different unit of distance measurement. Since the game only uses the metric system, the reason for this being there isn't exactly clear. The Theia Magnified Scope currently has the largest magnification in the game. In Greek mythology, Theia was the Titan goddess of sight and shining light of the clear blue sky. The method of obtaining the sight is ironic to an almost bizarre degree as it's intended for precision shots at long range and not for something that in reality would be haphazard to the point of being insane (i.e. Zip-line Rifling). Trivia

• The Nagant was based on the Mosin–Nagant M91/30 rifle with a fictional barrel length, intermediate between M91/30 and M38 carbine barrel lengths. It becomes the M38 carbine variant with the Short Barrel equipped, while the Long Barrel attachment restores the proper barrel length.
  • There is an inaccuracy in the weapon's model; in real life, the Mosin–Nagant has a small notch at the end of the cocking knob (the part of the bolt closest to you when firing) that allows for the adjustment of the firing pin's depth as well as a pair of notches indicating the factory setting. This is missing from the in-game model.
  • The barrel markings are inconsistent with its appearance, most closely resembling those for the M91 made by the Imperial Tula Ordnance Factory between 1892 and 1912.
  • The in-game use of the name Nagant, or even "Mosin-Nagant" for that matter, is highly unusual. From a technical point of view the rifle that came to be called "Mosin–Nagant" (or "Nagant–Mosin") is the design proposed by Mosin, as further amended by Mosin with some details being borrowed from Nagant's design, such as the idea of fixing the magazine baseplate spring to the floorplate and the chamber design that supports stripper clip loading, neither of which would hamper the rifle's operation at all were they to be removed from it.
• The Nagant is the first sniper rifle to be able to use iron sights.
  • When sighted in, the weapon does not 'move' the same way other weapons do when using the iron sights. All other weapons' sights will be misaligned when moving the aimpoint, whereas the Nagant's sights will remain aligned.
  • It is rather odd for any optic in general aside from the Theia Magnified Scope and the Nagant's Iron Sights to impose a Concealment reduction considering the size of the default scope.
• The announcement page description of the Nagant states that it is the longest continuously serving firearm in history. This is slightly incorrect, however, as the Mosin–Nagant was effectively superseded by various modern rifles since the ending of the Cold War and collapse of the USSR (1891 - 1991; 100 years) and to this day are only reserved for training and ceremonial purposes. The British Brown Bess musket is the longest-serving service rifle in military history with a service record of 145 years (1720 - 1865).
• Other than for balancing's sake, the Nagant's in-game price is astronomically inflated compared to the cost of a real Mosin-Nagant today, with most copies usually selling for only approximately $60 (an M4A1 on average sells for around $700), if not much, much less, owing to its general abundance and simplicity.
• The Nagant reloads with six-round stripper clips despite the weapon only holding five, and it is always reloaded with a whole clip regardless of how many rounds are left in the magazine. A more accurate representation would be for the player character to either reload the weapon one bullet at a time, reload it with a partial clip if not currently empty, or only fully load with a five-round clip when the magazine has no bullets left.
• The Nagant is the only gun added in the Gage Historical Pack that does not have a mod that turns it into a certain gun from the Star Wars franchise.
