Poison is a gameplay mechanic in PAYDAY 2 introduced in the Gage Ninja Pack DLC, dealing damage to enemies over time and stunning them.

Poison deals 250 damage to enemies every 0.5 seconds for a set amount of time (1 second with the Kunai Knife, 6 seconds with every other weapon).

There is a delay of 0.5 seconds before enemies start taking damage. If an enemy is hit with a poison weapon while still poisoned, the amount of time they take damage from poisoning is reset and instead of a 0.5s delay, there is a 0.25s delay.

Most enemies have a chance to go into a stun animation while poisoned. (100% for Shuriken, 70% for Kunai Knife, 50% for all other weapons) If an enemy goes into the animation, they will stay in that animation until the poison wears off. If an enemy is hit with a poison weapon again while already poisoned and displaying the animation and the chance for the animation to play fails, the animation is not aborted.

For a more detailed explanation of how poison works, see the "Weapon stats - Advanced Concepts" section of Frankelstner's "The Long Guide".

The following weapons can poison enemies. Note only the Shuriken and Kunai Knife are poisoned by default; Every other weapon needs to be modded.

Have at least 3 enemies poisoned at the same time with your poisoned weapons. Unlocks the "Shirai" mask, "Origami" material and "Hanabi" pattern.

  • The stun animation poison uses was in the game long before the release of the Gage Ninja Pack; They were originally used for the ECM Feedback skill before the stun animation was changed to the current one where enemies hold their heads in pain. The animation was also used for the "Poisoned Cake" asset in The Big Bank heist, and used for the keycard civilian in Golden Grin Casino.
