The Sniper is a special enemy in PAYDAY 3.
Overview[]
Snipers spawn outside of the accessible areas of the map, training powerful rifles on players from afar, and do not move once spawned. They can be found by the prominent red laser they emit from their gun that tracks a heister, slowly increasing in accuracy until they fire a shot. Sniper shots are loud, and can be heard by every player on the map.
Once a Sniper's laser stops moving and fully tracks a player, they are set to take a shot, and will do so within a couple of seconds. Being hit by a Sniper's shot will remove entire plates of armor from the heister who was hit, with the amount of lost plates depending on the difficulty. After firing, they will return to targeting, beginning the cycle all over again until they have no targets to shoot.
Strategy[]
If a heister breaks line of sight with a Sniper after their laser finishes calibrating but before they have taken a shot, the Sniper will shoot anyway. Baiting Sniper shots can be a good method of reducing their impact, not to mention that they will have difficulty targeting covered or indoor targets to begin with.
Furthermore, Snipers do not have a lot of health, and can easily be dispatched with an accurate weapon and careful aim. Most secondaries are capable of this.
Occasionally, a sniper may strangely behave by pulling out their pistol to engage heisters. This is likely because the snipers are too close to the players. In this case, the sniper is completely helpless and deal laughable damage, enabling heisters to just kill these snipers on the spot.

- On some heists (such as Cook Off), snipers may leave their usual sniping area and roam the area.
- The Sniper and the Cloaker are the only two units in the game without armor.
- The sniper also has the least amount of health out of all the special units, only having 40 while all the other units (including non-specials) have around 150 or more health.
