The Ukrainian Prisoner heist is a PAYDAY 2 heist released on June 16, 2021. It is the second heist offered by the contractor Jiu Feng, although Locke provides voiceover and instructions. After acquiring the Golden Dragon, Vlad has been captured by the Golden Dagger triad, being held in a triad-controlled dockyard, and the Payday gang has to rescue him. The gang can do so silently or loud.
Overview[]
The crew breaks into the dockyard and accesses the camera feeds to locate and release Vlad, who has been heavily injured by the torture inflicted onto him. After stabilizing him, he is put into the scoop of a skid loader operated by a worker allied with Jiu Feng and escorted to the docks, acquiring intel on the triads along the way. At the docks, Locke is unable to contact Jiu Feng to come in by boat to pick up the crew due to the comms being interfered with by the triad— in loud, the triad boss, Yufu Wang, speaks to the crew directly, telling them he is giving them one opportunity to return what they stole to "save everyone a lot of trouble"— and the crew signals him to come in so they may escape.
Walkthrough[]
The crew starts in front of the dockyard gates, which are electrified. The crew can either open one of the nearby power boxes and break the panel inside to turn off the electricity so they may lockpick or saw it open, or, if the crew has bought the "Broken Wall" asset in pre-planning, can bypass it by going over a wall to the left of the gate.
After accessing the dockyard, the IT room must be found on the upper floor of the main building and accessed (if the alarm goes off before the room is opened, the doors will be covered with security gates, with one needed to be drilled) so that the crew may look through the camera feeds by affixing a camera access panel to the servers. One camera feed is watching Vlad in a container, and the name of the shipping company and the numbers for the container can be seen inside. To find where he is being held, a computer in the control room is hacked into to display the shipping manifest, matching the shipping company to either warehouse A, B, or C.
The doors for the warehouses have different security measures locking their doors- two different keypads and a keycard panel- with the methods for bypassing these depending on whether the alarm has gone off yet.
- Hanzi keypad: A keypad that uses characters of the Chinese alphabet. A clipboard (called "notepad" in-game) has to be found in the main building and brought to the keypad to see the characters to press on the keypad.
- Keycard panel: The keycard is in the foreman's office in the main building, which is currently being occupied by a triad member. Locke suggests finding a bottle of "cleaning product" near janitorial supplies to spike a cake in the kitchen, and then looking through the windows of the office to call the triad member about the cake through the intercom so that he leaves to eat it and the crew can take the keycard.
- Number keypad: The keypad has a rotating code that changes every minute. The crew has to find and hack a powered-on desktop in the cubicle area in the main building, and then enter the code displayed on the screen before it changes.
Having accessed the warehouse, the containers are found to all be sealed with a lock that can only be opened with a blowtorch, which can either be picked up on a toolbox in/around the main building or on a workbench in the warehouse. After opening Vlad's container (all the other containers can be opened, potentially containing crates filled with loose items) and releasing him from his shackles (while the camera watching him can be alerted by seeing the players in stealth, it will not be alerted by Vlad being released or walking out of the container), he will need to be stabilized before he can move. In stealth, the crew has to find a first aid kit attached to one of the walls inside the warehouse, take the adrenaline shot within, and inject him with it. In loud, he is suffering from cardiac arrest and a timer (either 2 minutes or 3 minutes) starts to stabilize him, with failure to do so resulting in his death and the heist ending; the crew has to charge a defibrillator (taking 10 seconds) sitting on a workbench in the warehouse and shock him once (on the 2 minute timer) or twice (on the 3 minute timer).
After stabilizing Vlad, he gets into the scoop of the skid loader, and the crew gathers at the security gate so that they may proceed. The crew then has the choice of lockpicking/shooting/sawing the lock of either the gate on the left or that on the right to continue, up to player preference. After making their way to the harbor office (by either sliding a gate or moving a container via a crane, respectively), Locke states they should take information about the triad from the building before moving on; in stealth, the crew has to take a USB stick from the building's IT room and a set of documents from one of the office rooms, putting both in the scanning machine located in one of the rooms, then taking the USB stick out of the machine. In loud, they have to hack and defend the IT room computer.
After acquiring the triad info and pulling a switch to lower a set of bollards to let the skid loader through, they again may choose whether to go left (by moving a truck out of the way) or right (by defeating another lock), with the former requiring the crew to move a few ramps to let the skid loader drive on and off of a ship, and the latter requiring the crew to move a pallet jack out of its path. After making it to the docks, due to Locke being unable to contact Jiu Feng, the crew has to signal him; in stealth, they have to find a can of gasoline to set a tire pile on fire with, and in loud, the crew has to find a box of fireworks in one of the containers and light it at the extraction point. Jiu Feng arrives shortly after and the crew escapes.
Thinking Ahead[]
Players have the opportunity to open a secret area of the map by pressing three different buttons, located in three areas of the map. There are five possible spawn locations for the first button in the first warehouse, three for the second button in the container area with the fork in the road, and two more for the last button on the ground floor of the harbor office.
After pressing these buttons, the player can make their way towards the boat and turn left to find a two-colored container. This container can be interacted with, leading to a secret compartment where a small jump puzzle must be completed to access a container. This container will have 10 crates that contain gold and coke bags. Securing these bags in Jiu Feng's boat and then escaping will net the player(s) the "Thinking Ahead" achievement.
Strategy[]
- After releasing Vlad in stealth, triad members will walk to the front gate of the dockyard; if any body bags are deposited in the starting area, they will be seen by them and be alerted, either sounding the alarm themselves or causing a chain reaction that makes a guard/camera sound the alarm.
- For both of the left/right decisions after the security gate and the harbor office, the right path will have drones surveying the area (but these can be removed/reduced with the appropriate asset), while the left path will not but will be a bit tighter to maneuver in.
- If the right route is chosen after getting past the harbor office in stealth, the pallet jack will have two civilians standing near it. If playing solo, it may be a better option to take the left route, as the civilians are near an open area with many cameras, guards and other civilians, and it may be difficult to pacify the civilians and move them out of view before they are seen.
Notes[]
- There are crates throughout the dockyard that can be opened with loose loot items inside, containing either money bundles, tablets, or jewelry.
- In stealth, after igniting the tires to signal Jiu Feng, a 4-minute timer will start counting down towards Vlad's death. Jiu Feng does arrive before the timer reaches zero, but it will not stop ticking down until after all players enter the escape zone.
Variations[]
- The locations of most of the objectives relevant to finding/rescuing Vlad, stealing the triad info, and signaling Jiu Feng vary.
- The IT room and foreman's office in the main building may swap in different playthroughs.
- In loud, Vlad will either need to be defibrillated once on a 2-minute timer or twice on a 3-minute timer.
- Two triad members may be having a conversation near the harbor office, either to the north of the building itself or in the "Power Central" area.
- The fences on the west side of the Power Central area may be covered with tarp, preventing enemies from seeing players through the fence but also preventing players from cutting open the fence to go through that area.
Mayhem+ Changes[]
- All cameras and drones are replaced with their Titan variants.
- If the crew goes through the warehouse to reach the dock in loud, two Skulldozers will be waiting on the walkway above.

- For The Mad Hatter is a reference to The Mad Hatter from Lewis Carroll's 1865 book Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, who is frozen in time forever stuck at 6pm in an endless tea party. The Hatter tried to sing to the foul-tempered Queen of Hearts who sentenced him to death by decapitation. Father Time retaliated and froze The Mad Hatter in time out of respect for him. The "Laohu Dashi" outfit is a reference to Bruce Lee and his yellow jumpsuit. The name translates to "Tiger Master", referencing the black and yellow colors of the outfit.
- The teaser achievements reference Sputnik 1, the world's first artificial satellite, made by the Russians in 1957. Vlad has been referred to as Sputnik multiple times. Sputnik 1 transmitted signals for 21 days before the transmitter batteries died, then 2 months later it burned up while reentering Earth's atmosphere. It had a diameter of 58cm, traveled at 8 km/s and had a cumulative distance traveled of 70,000,000 km.
Trivia[]
- A piece of toast can be found in the container holding the loot bags, behind the row of crates on the right.
- The number four key is missing from the Hanzi keypad. Coincidentally or not, "four" is homophonous with "death" in several Southeast Asian cultures, Chinese included, and is often avoided where possible out of superstition.
- Documents found during the heist detail blueprints of a ship, as well as referencing a one-armed bandit. This foreshadows the very next heist in the City of Gold campaign.
