U.S. Marshal Shields are "upgraded" Shields introduced in the Lost In Transit heist that brandish futuristic shields and Deagle pistols. In addition, they have the ability to blind a heister with their shields should they get too close. However, their shields are notably much more fragile than a regular Shield's, and can be destroyed by conventional weaponry. Should this happen, they get knocked down only to get back in the fight with a much more powerful VD-12 shotgun.

They can appear in any loud heist, similarly to U.S. Marshal Sharpshooters.

Background[]

"A revolutionary upgrade to the standard SWAT defensive unit, this operative’s shield comes equipped with a blinding flash emitter that can stun enemies at close range. The Marshal Shield uses a semi-automatic pistol as his default weapon, but if his armor is destroyed, he will go on the offensive and switch to a shotgun loaded with concussive rounds.

Notes: I don’t know about all these fancy gadgets the Marshals keep cranking out. Sure, the stun flash will stop a perp dead in his tracks, but everything’s a trade off. They added all that wiring to the shield, so they had to cut back on the actual armor. A few good hits will break it to pieces! Luckily, these guys move fast as hell when they’re down to their shotguns. Must be the adrenaline.
"
—FBI Files Description.

Strategy[]

The Marshal Shield's flash attack can be predicted when a cone of red light appears in front, alongside a sound cue telling the player to back off or destroy the Shield immediately. In addition, their Deagle pistols do more damage than the normal Shield's CMP submachine guns.

Getting flashed by the Marshal Shield and a flashbang at the same time will cause an exceptionally long period of blindness for a player. Remember to avoid making this happen at all costs.

Because of the Marshal Shield essentially being a normal Shield with higher damage and a flashbang effect, all tactics of a normal Shield can apply here:

  • Sniper Rifles, other Armor-piercing weaponry and Dragon's Breath Rounds will finish off the Marshal Shield like normal.
    • However, explosive weaponry directly on the Shield will destroy the Shield first, allowing it to switch to its VD-12.
  • They can be flanked like any other Shield enemy in the game.

Should a player destroy its shield, the Marshal Shield will heal with the same green outline and behavioral pause like an enemy Medic, but suddenly gain 3 seconds of invulnerability with an orange outline, then fight back with a VD-12, outputting much more damage in much less time, until defeated. They also have more health after the shield breaks.

When this happens, the Marshal Shield will become a conventional opponent, but their VD-12s cause a Concussion Grenade effect on players, in addition to doing much higher damage than their Deagle pistols they previously would wield.

Safe way of dealing with Marshal Shields once their shield breaks is to spin aground them during their 3 seconds of invulnerability, avoiding getting in their field of vision to avoid getting flashed. after their 3 seconds of invulnerability run out, try to either stun them via Buzzer or Electrical Brass Knuckles to make them harmless and then shoot them in head, or keep spinning aground them while shooting them in head for fast takedowns, as their health after their shield breaks goes up to almost 4000 health on death sentence difficulty.

A player could also shoot at the Marshal Shield's headlight when the cone of red light appears. Doing this will cause the flash explosion to be produced, stunning the shield and nearby enemies in the vicinity of the explosion. It will also disable Marshal Shield's ability to use the shield flash attack against the player if all headlights are destroyed.

Variants[]

Bellmead shield
"Utilizing defensive technology stolen from the U.S. Marshals, this shielded mercenary unit comes equipped with a close-range stun flash emitter, a semi-automatic handgun, and a shotgun to be used if their armor is destroyed.

Notes: How’d those Bellmead dicks get a hold of the Marshal stun tech before my department?! Feds must have a goddamn leak or something. Whatever. I don’t want those flimsy shields anyway. Wish I could get my boys to hustle like these mercs, though. When their shotguns come out, it’s like they’re on crack.
"
—FBI Files Description.

According to the FBI Files, Bellmead International had stolen the shield technology that the Marshal Shields use, in which they deploy mercenaries that use these shields. They appear in all heists that do not use standard law enforcement. They also appear in the Crude Awakening heist.

Trivia[]

  • The U.S. Marshal Shield is the only enemy in the game to cause the concussion effect on players, should they be wielding their VD-12s.
  • The beeping sound made by a U.S. Marshal Shield when it is preparing its flash bang is a lower pitch than the standard flash bang beeping sound.
  • The U.S. Marshal Shield is one of the three special enemies in the game to not have any special regional variants, the others being the U.S. Marshal Sharpshooter and Captain Winters. Like the U.S. Marshal Shields before them, they instead appear as black-uniformed mercenaries working for Bellmead International.
    • Like the U.S. Marshal Sharpshooter before them, their presence in non-U.S. heists raises questions. How they managed to work alongside ruthless mercenaries (Boiling Point's Russian Reapers), a rival PMC (Murkywater), foreign law enforcement (Federales) or zombies (Cursed Kill Room) is not known.
  • U.S. Marshal Shields' flashes are similar to Blitz, from Rainbow Six Siege, who also has the ability to flash enemies using a gadget attached to the shield just below the glass.
