Shrapnel is all well and good but some things need to be fried, and this little beauty is a rather practical beast for dishing out some damage with high voltage.

The X1-ZAPper is a throwable weapon for PAYDAY 2, introduced as a part of the Jiu Feng Smuggler Pack 2.

Overview[]

The X1-ZAPper is a lethal throwable weapon which will electrocute any nearby enemy in a radius of 10m for 3 seconds, as well as damage them for 600 damage (damage scales depending on distance from explosion).

Mechanics[]

Upon throwing a X1-ZAPper, a large electrical explosion will occur, shocking and interrupting nearby enemies as if you'd had hit them with electrical melee weapons (such as the Electrical Brass Knuckles, or the Buzzer). Civilians caught in the blast radius will immediately lie down on the ground as if shouted at or hit with a melee strike instead of getting killed, making the X1-ZAPper a far more "hostage-friendly" throwable similar to the Concussion Grenade.

If the X1-ZAPper's user is too close to its explosion radius, they will also get electrocuted for half of the normal shock time (1.5 seconds), as if they'd got tased by a Taser. This may also be used to quickly reload weapons with long reload times, such as the Vulcan Minigun or Flamethrower Mk.1. However, the user will still fire uncontrollably for about a second when shocked, so caution should still be exercised with the presence of hostages nearby.

The damage dealt by X1-ZAPpers decreases as distance from the explosion increases. Unlike other grenades however, ZAPper grenade fall-off is logarithmic (inverse of the exponential fall-off of other grenades). This means that damage will rapidly fall-off as distance increases. The formula

determines the exact damage dealt by a grenade, where distance is the distance between an enemy and the explosion. A grenade that explodes directly underneath an enemy (or a direct hit by a launcher round) will deal between 551 and 541 damage, as an enemy directly on an explosion is typically 0.24m away from the center of the blast. By 1.8m, the grenade will deal around half damage.

If the enemy is a Heavy Swat or a Shield, the damage taken will be multiplied by 0.8 or 0.9, respectively. Bulldozers and Captain Winters are both vulnerable to explosions, and their damage taken will be mutliplied by 1.1 and 6.0, respectively. [1]

Strategy[]

Similar to the Concussion Grenade, the X1-ZAPper is best used against large crowds of enemies, especially on the Death Sentence difficulty, where enemies have large amounts of health and damage, and also have a tendency of grouping up together. A X1-ZAPper may come in handy in situations where you need to pass through a large group of enemies or when you need to rescue an incapacitated player while said groups cannot be dispatched easily.

The X1-ZAPper also has a major drawback, which is its capacity; only being able to bring 4 at a time, unlike the Concussion Grenade, which has a capacity of 6. The Grenade Case asset should be bought if these grenades will be used often, with an Enforcer with Fully Loaded Aced seeing the greatest benefit.

Be careful while using this, as it may also electrocute yourself if you're too close to it when it explodes.

Achievements[]

Trivia[]

  • The X1-ZAPper is the first throwable weapon which can be unlocked via an achievement.
  • The X1-ZAPper is also available as a modification for certain weapons, such as a grenade for the KETCHNOV Byk-1's underbarrel grenade launcher, or as a type of grenade ammo for the Piglet.
