- "They'll get a SHOCKING surprise!"
- —Zapper preparing to shock a heister
The Zapper is a special enemy in PAYDAY 3.
Behavior[]
The Zapper functions similarly to its previous counterparts in combat. When they enter attack range, they will charge a taser they carry with a high-pitched whirr.
If the Zapper is not interrupted before they fire, they will electrocute the player they are looking at, which disables movement and independent action except looking around, partially locks their facing direction, and automatically fires their current weapon. If the stun effect lasts long enough, they will lose control of their gun entirely, firing it into the air. Eventually, electrocution will down a player outright if not interrupted, at which point the Zapper will seek a new target.
When not actively fighting, Zappers will deploy shock mines that apply a brief, but very annoying, variant of their electrocution effect.
Strategies[]
While zapping a heister, the Zapper and the zapped player are both marked until the effect ends, allowing other players to notice and respond.
The battery pack on a Zapper's hip isn't just for show; shooting it will cause it to violently explode, electrocuting both the Zapper and every other unit around them, including other players who are unlucky enough to stand close. This effect deals no damage to police, but it will stun them for long enough to land a killing blow or take a human shield. The battery pack can only explode in this way once, and cannot explode if the Zapper is dead.
Shock mines can also be shot, exploding with a smaller radius when they are. Shock mines can be very easy to miss if not careful, so be mindful and vigilant.

Trivia[]
- According to SINS in the Syntax Error heist, the in-universe classification of Zappers is "Non-lethal Response Specialist" (N.R.S.).
- The Zapper is not called ‘Taser’ anymore due to the name being copyrighted by AXON, hence being renamed.
- The Zapper is still called the Taser in the internal files of PAYDAY 3.
- Instead of a modified rifle, the Zapper holds the X26P handheld taser, which is ironically a product of AXON, given that Taser is now a copyrighted name.
- The only distinctive features of the Zapper are the goggles with yellow lenses, the yellowish-green strip on the top of the vest, and yellowish-green gloves, making it easy to confuse it with the basic and heavy SWATS alongside the Nader.
- Strangely, the Zapper is seen wearing what appeared to be riot gear instead of ballistic protection unlike his previous counterparts.
- When being electrocuted, a blue lightning overlay will appear on the sides of the screen.
- Shooting the battery pack on a Zapper's belt and stunning 4 other enemies with it on the Hard difficulty or above rewards the player with the "Danger, High Voltage" achievement.
